Mr. Miller has over 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry working with hospitals and hospital systems of various operating and ownership models. He has an extensive background in hospital operations and financial management. He is an experienced Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Financial Officer at the corporate, regional and local levels. Mr. Miller’s experience includes both the not-for-profit and for-profit arenas, including leadership in a large publicly traded hospital-corporation.

Mr. Miller has focused expertise in assisting distressed businesses move to a position of strategic, operational, and financial stability. His operational expertise is in-depth in terms of running an efficient hospital in a fiscally responsible manner, with a strong adherence to clinical quality, patient satisfaction and physician partnering.

Representative Hospital/Long Term Care Engagements
  • 140 beds (Northeast) – retained by hospital system as interim CEO to provide turnaround management for operational and licensure issues.
  • 450 beds (Midwest) – retained by hospital system to assess business development and physician recruitment activity.
  • 180 beds (Southeast) – retained by owner to assist with opening of facility by providing start up policies, advisory services and OR clinical reviews.
  • Specialty hospital company (Central) – retained by lender to perform an operational and financial review of specialty hospital. Results of review were used by lender as operational gauge as the hospital company opened additional facilities.
  • 150 beds (Southeast) – retained by hospital after lender required the appointment of a turnaround company. Reorganized operational areas to include: administrative functions, business office, accounting office and physician development.
  • LTAC facility (Texas) – retained by consent of both the majority and minority owners to serve as Chief Restructuring Officer. Led operational process until sale agreement was in place with new owner.
  • 40 Beds (Texas) – retained by hospital system to act as interim CEO of hospital and assist in the sale of the hospital.
  • 70 Beds (International) – retained by the Board as CEO to assist in the funding, design and construction of acute care hospital. Assembled team in host country to provide financial, legal, marketing/public relations and construction oversight to project.
  • Assisted Living Facility (Southeast) – retained by lender to assess the long term viability of 3 assisted living facilities.
  • 100 beds (Midwest) – retained by hospital after lender required assessment of operational and financial viability of hospital. Assessment uncovered physician relationship issues, physician recruitment issues and lack of operating metrics and/or controls.
  • 120 beds (Southeast) – retained by lender to perform operation and financial viability of hospital that lender had LOC.
  • 160 beds (Northeast) – retained by hospital system to provide interim management on a CEO level to ensure an smooth transition after changed in management.
  • 190 beds (Northeast) – retained by lender to provide analysis of shut down cost and procedures for hospital. Monitored process for lender.
  • 25 beds (Central) – retained by lender to assess viability of facility. Assisted in hospital management develop operational goals and reporting mechanisms to facility board of trustees.
  • Medical facility (West Coast) – retained by investor to provide due diligence of proposed transaction.
Prior Experience
  • Mr. Miller’s consulting experience includes Bridge Associates were he was a Director primarily focused on healthcare bankruptcy and restructuring, and as a Principal with Centre Health Partners where he primarily focused on hospital and healthcare related assessments and interim assignments.
  • Prior to joining Centre Health Partners, Mr. Miller was Vice President of Operations for a 15 hospital group within a publically traded company.
  • Mr. Miller’s consulting career spans a broad spectrum: nonurban community hospitals, specialty hospitals, regional community hospital systems, large tertiary teaching hospitals, and international hospitals.
  • Mr. Miller has served as an expert witness for: (1) a hospital system in Texas regarding physician recruitment and credentialing; (2) a multisite physician group regarding a noncompetition clause; and, (3) a lawsuit regarding corporate structure, governance, Stark Law prohibitions, and issues impacting 501(c)(3) tax status.
